Switch Slides to Prompter Without Screen Share Flicker

October 4, 2026 · 7 min read

You're mid-presentation, slides are flowing, and you need to glance at your script. The moment you Alt+Tab from your slide deck to a teleprompter window, your screen share flashes black, shows your desktop, or drops the shared window entirely. That flicker breaks the flow for your audience and makes the transition feel unpolished.

The fix isn't a faster Alt+Tab. It's separating what you see from what your audience sees. By routing your presentation through a stable virtual camera source and using scene cuts instead of window switching, you can move between slides and a prompter like VozPilot without a single frame of flicker.

Why Direct Window Switching Flickers

Most conferencing apps let you share a specific window or the full screen. When you switch from a slide app to a browser-based prompter, the shared source changes. The app has to renegotiate the capture, adjust resolution, and sometimes reveal your desktop for a fraction of a second.

Common triggers include:

You can eliminate most flicker by never asking the conferencing app to switch sources live. Instead, send one constant video feed and change what is inside that feed.

Route Your Share Through OBS Virtual Camera

OBS Studio acts as a presentation mixer between your content and the meeting app. Download OBS, then click Start Virtual Camera. In Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet, choose OBS Virtual Camera as your video source instead of sharing your screen directly.

This gives you one always-on video output. You can swap, layer, and rearrange sources inside OBS without the meeting app knowing anything changed.

Build Separate Scenes for Slides and Prompter

In OBS, create two scenes: one named Slides and one named Prompter. Add your slide deck as a window or display capture in the Slides scene. For the Prompter scene, open VozPilot in a dedicated browser window and add it as a Window Capture or use a Browser Source pointed at your VozPilot session URL.

Keep both sources locked to the same canvas size. If your prompter window has a dark background, add a color source behind it to prevent transparency from showing through.

Switch With Hotkey Cuts, Not Transitions

Set the transition to Cut with 0 ms duration. This swaps scenes instantly with no fade, slide, or stinger animation. Fades can look intentional, but they also create moments where both scenes are partially visible, and any render hiccup there reads as flicker.

If you prefer to stay in one scene, you can stack both sources and toggle visibility with a hotkey filter, but separate scenes are easier to test and less error-prone live.

Preflight Checklist Before You Go Live

Flicker usually appears at the worst moment because the setup worked in a calm test but not under full load. Run this checklist before recording or joining the meeting:

If you still see a flash during hotkey switches, lower the OBS canvas resolution or disable hardware acceleration in your browser.

Alternative: Keep the Prompter Off the Shared Canvas

If you want zero chance of the prompter appearing on the audience screen, load your teleprompter on a phone or tablet and place it just below your camera lens. Then you do not have to switch OBS scenes at all; your script stays physically separate from the shared feed.

This works best for speaker-style presentations. For a fully virtual presentation, keeping the prompter as an OBS scene gives you script cues without looking away from the camera. Choose the method that matches your setup.
